Building the Shelves: Makers, Donations, and What’s Taking Shape

Things are starting to come together at Gallatin General Store — slowly, intentionally, and with a lot of heart.
Over the past two weeks, we’ve been connecting with local makers and producers, and we’re excited to share that more than 20 creative locals are already planning to be part of the store when we open in Spring 2026. At the same time, we’ve been actively sourcing shelves, display pieces, clothing, and secondhand merchandise, and the vision for the store is really beginning to take shape.
The mix forming is exactly what we hoped for: practical, well-made, a little unexpected, and full of personality — the kind of place where you can find something useful and something that makes you smile.
What You’ll Find from Local Makers & Producers
The shelves will feature a wide range of locally made and grown goods, including:
Charcuterie boards, wooden serving pieces, and kitchen tools
Dog bowls, dog treats, and pet-friendly goods
Ceramic mugs, coffee, tea towels, and everyday kitchen items
Cards, stickers, art prints, and photography
Crochet creations and sewn goods, including eye pillows, egg aprons, baby burp cloths, and bibs
Upcycled denim purses and sewn accessories
Statement metal pieces and functional tools
Metal art and welded home pieces
Soy candles, wax melts, car fresheners, and goat milk crèmes
Beeswax food wraps, reusable paper towels, and fire starters
Lotion bars, soaps, goat milk lotions, and beer soap
Earrings, jewelry, acrylic cups, and wood burned art
Coffee and pantry-friendly staples
Meat products including ground beef, jerky, and meat sticks
Goat cheese and other local food goods
It’s the kind of mix where you can grab something you need, discover something you didn’t expect, and leave already thinking about your next visit.
What’s Already in Motion
Alongside these maker connections, we’ve been busy sourcing store fixtures and secondhand goods — shelves, display tables, baskets, racks, clothing, and merchandise that already has life left in it. Many of the displays you’ll see in the store are being reused and repurposed, right alongside secondhand items that will fill the racks.
The building itself is coming along as well. Construction is underway, and while we won’t have access to the space until March, it’s been exciting to watch it take shape and know that everything we’re gathering now will soon have a home.
Seeing the physical pieces come together — both the space and what will fill it — has been one of the most rewarding parts of the process. What started as an idea is steadily becoming something you’ll be able to walk through.
Why Donations Still Matter
Even with so much already sourced, secondhand contributions continue to play an important role — both in what we sell and in how the store itself is built.
Current Wishlist
Clothing (ages 6 and up)
Tables and bookshelves
Display cases and shelving
clothing racks and store fixtures
Baskets, small racks, lamps
If you have something that fits and you’re ready to pass it along, we’d love to hear from you.
A Moment That Says a Lot About This Store
One of the moments that really captured what this store is about happened recently when a high school friend stepped in to help remake the logo, getting it ready to send to SCS Wraps for the official store sign.

It was a simple act — lending time, skill, and care — but it meant a lot. It felt like a reminder that this store isn’t being built alone. It’s taking shape through shared talents, conversations, and neighbors showing up for one another in small but meaningful ways.
Gallatin General Store is rooted in the idea that we’re all part of a larger community — that we’re better when we lean on one another, share resources, and look for local ways to support everyday life. This is what it looks like when a village comes together.
Still Connecting with Makers
While we’re thrilled with the group forming so far, we’re still actively connecting with local makers and producers. If you create food, goods, or handcrafted items and think your work might be a good fit, we’re happy to start a conversation.
What “Shop Local” Means to Us
Supporting local doesn’t stop at the doors of Gallatin General Store.
For us, shopping local means amplifying neighbors, supporting makers and producers, and helping many small businesses thrive — not just one. The goal is to create a place that connects people to local goods and local talent, while encouraging a stronger, more resilient local economy overall.
When neighbors support neighbors, everyone benefits.
Thank You for Being Part of This
Whether you’re a maker, a donor, a future customer, or someone simply cheering this on — thank you. Gallatin General Store is being built piece by piece and shelf by shelf through community support, shared effort, and a lot of encouragement.
We’re excited to keep building and sharing more along the way.
